Changes to the 2021-2022 Wellbeing Program

The 2021-2022 Wellbeing Program has expanded to better include all eight dimensions of wellbeing! Learn more about the changes to the program in the FAQ below, or view the program brochure for more information.

When can I earn points?

You can start earning right away and keep earning for a full year. The 2021-2022 program year runs from September 1, 2021, to August 31, 2022.

Will I have to re-register if I’m already enrolled in the program?

No! You can start earning points via the Virgin Pulse app on September 1 without re-registering.

How many points do I have to earn?

During the program year, you’ll need to earn 5,000 points to receive a $500 discount on your 2023 medical insurance. To earn a $750 discount on you and your covered spouse’s medical insurance, you’ll need to earn 7,500 points (or you can earn 5,000 and your spouse can earn the remaining 2,500).

As in past years, please note that you must be enrolled in a University of Minnesota medical care plan to participate in the program.

Why have points increased?

We know you may be wondering why point levels went from 500 to 5,000 this year, and don’t worry—point values for wellbeing activities have also gone up. For example, rather than earning 150 points for going to a SKY Campus Happiness Retreat, participants will earn 1,800 points during the 2021-2022 program year.

How else has the program changed?

In addition to increasing point values, we’ve increased the number of points-earning activities, paying special attention to adding free programs. Participants will no longer have to attend a minimum number of sessions or have a maximum number of points they can receive for many wellbeing options. For example, if you’d like to attend every LSS Financial and Fidelity financial webinar in the 2021-2022 programming year, you’ll earn points for each one. We made these changes so that you can explore the dimensions of wellbeing to a level that works for your personal wellbeing.

What are some new or expanded offerings for the 2021-2022 program year? 

  • All LSS Financial, Fidelity, Group Health Coaching, and the Center for Spirituality and Healing monthly wellbeing webinars are free for covered employees and spouses and worth 200 points each. You can earn points for every session you attend. Find points-eligible courses on the Events and Workshops page.

  • SKY Campus Happiness Retreats earn 1,800 points to better match the time commitment.

  • The COVID-19 vaccine pledge earns 1,000 points.

  • The Center for Spirituality and Healing’s free Mindful Mondays earn 50 points each.

  • Watching Whil mindfulness videos now count for daily points per video.

  • Taking just 1,000 steps in a day can earn you points. You no longer need to rack up a certain number of steps throughout the week for points—you’ll earn points based on what level you hit: 1,000, 2,000, and 3,000-14,000 steps per day. Plus you’ll earn monthly bonus points for moving more!

What are some of the new points assignments for activities that earned me points last program year? 

      • Flu shot pledge: 500 points

      • Health assessment questionnaire: 500 points

      • Biometric screening: 1,000 points

      • Wellbeing My Way: 50 points, up to 36 times per year

      • Medication Therapy Management: 500 points, up to 2 times per year

      • Fit Choices (August 2021-July 2022): 25 points per day, no maximum

      • Bike program, 20 points per day, no maximum

      • All webinar courses (group coaching, financial, etc.): 200 points per session, no maximum

      • Cooking classes: 250 points per session, no maximum

      • Individual health, pregnancy, and/or parenting coaching sessions: 250 points per session, no maximum

When and how will points for attending events be added to my account?

To receive points for attending a points-eligible event, you will register or fill out a survey during the event. The attendance logs will be submitted to the Office of Human Resources, and your points will be submitted for you on the first Tuesday of the month following the event.

If you attend an event that is not part of the Wellbeing Program, you can pledge Wellbeing My Way points for it by going to Programs in the Virgin Pulse portal or app, searching for "Wellbeing My Way," and following the instructions to submit the event.
